Do you know how to say hello in korean? Your first conversation in korean might starts with greeting.

Saying hello in korean is quite easy.

There’re 2 ways to say hello in korean.

  1. 안녕하세요. [Annyeonghaseyo]
  2. 안녕. [Annyeong]

But you need to understand the cultural background first. You might think “Oh, There’s short version of hello. Keep that short one.” Nope! It depends on the person you’re addressing.

Greeting elder people in korean is little bit different.

What is the difference between 1 and 2?

> Number one is the most common and stardard way to say hello to someone. It can be used in both formal and informal situations, making it a versatile greeting.

Number two is a more casual and shortened version of number one. It’s commonly used umong friends and people of the same age. You CANNOT use this version to elder people and people you don’t know.

안녕하세요. [Annyeonghaseyo] sounds like…

안녕. [Annyeong] sounds like…

To remember, It sounds like [onion-hot-say-yo].

How to say goodbye in korean?

  1. 안녕히 가세요. [Annyeonghi gaseyo]
  2. 안녕히 계세요. [Annyeonghi gyeseyo]
  3. 안녕. [Annyeong]

What are the differences?

  1. [Annyeonghi gaseyo] This is used to bid farewell to someone who is leaving. It can be used in various contexts, such as when someone is leaving work, a gathering, or your presence.
  2. [Annyeonghi gyeseyo] This is used to bid farewell to someone who is staying behind while you leave. I’ts a way to wish them well during your departure.
  3. [Annyeong] This could be used to any situation. It is the casaul way to say goodbye. You CANNOT use to elder people and people you don’t know. No difference between short version of say hello.
